HANHART PIONEER
Hanhart PIONEER: the way in that leaves nothing out
The 417 ES is the icon of the house, and icons have their price. The PIONEER family is the answer to that. Hanhart draws on its own archive here too, but without tying itself to a single historical model. The result is watches between one and a good two thousand euros with nothing missing in substance: stainless steel cases, sapphire crystal, and the same rate standard as the expensive models, zero to plus eight seconds across six positions.
The chronographs
Mk I and Mk II carry the handwriting of the historical pilot chronographs: fluted bezel, large crown, red pusher. The difference between them is the dial. The Mk I is deep black and severe, the Mk II off-white in a tone that recalls aged radium and gives the watch a patina that otherwise takes decades.
The watches without a stop function
Not everyone needs a chronograph. The PIONEER One is the three-hander with date, tidy and without displays you never use. The Preventor HD12 is the flattest watch in the range and, at 39 mm, the one that actually fits under a shirt cuff. The letters HD stand for the surface hardness of the steel used, which takes considerably more than ordinary stainless steel without losing its corrosion resistance.
The Silva finally takes its name from the Latin: silva means forest, and the forest meant is the Black Forest in which it is made. Its design goes back to a Hanhart model of the thirties, the calibre 36/39, known for its very clear formal language. At 38.5 mm and on a milanese bracelet it is the only one in the range that wears as a unisex watch.
