The History of U-Boat Men's Watches
The motto of the Italian designer is: "A new dimension of time." He was born in Lucca in 1965, where the U-Boat company still has its headquarters today. The basic idea for the watches came from his grandfather Ilvo Fontana, who received a commission from the Italian Navy and Air Force in 1942. He was supposed to develop a timepiece that would be easy to read under all light and weather conditions, while also being as indestructible as possible. Unfortunately, the project was never carried out, but the plans awaited his discovery. In 2000, Fontana came across the documents with the old watch designs. He was immediately passionate about them. He had always loved the ocean, facing its powerful forces in numerous water sports. Thus, it was a logical consequence that U-Boat was created, with each model reflecting Fontana's love and passion, as well as the elemental forces of nature. U-Boat quickly made a name for itself, especially in the luxury watch industry. Even today, the innovative ideas and unique designs are a distinctive feature of U-Boat men's watches.
The Movement of U-Boat Men's Watches
Impressive due to its striking design, the first U-Boat men's watches were primarily equipped with a Myota quartz movement. U-Boat men's watches are handcrafted by master watchmakers in Italy with technical expertise and attention to detail. Meanwhile, movements from the Swiss manufacturer ETA SA are installed, refining the internal mechanisms.

The U-Boat men's watch manufacturing includes seven different collections:

They stand out due to their extreme, durable, and innovative design compared to other luxury watch brands. The case diameters, ranging from 45 mm to 56 mm, are also among the largest in their class. Another unique feature is that the crown on all U-Boat men's watch models is positioned on the left side, making the watch more comfortable to wear. The actual crown is located under a cap that is screwed over it. The cap is attached with a lever, which explains the size. Each individual model reflects the personality of Italo Fontana. The design is simpler, while color and form play the decisive role, demonstrating style and strength.
Chimera is the most popular collection from the Italian U-Boat men's watch workshop and impresses with its power, masculinity, and individuality. Fontana's passion for a certain vintage character is evident in the clear design. The solid connection between the bezel and the case ensures optimal water resistance. Only 10 models of the recently launched Chimera 60 exist.
The Classico collection stands for robustness, militaristic design, and the expansive dial embodies the legendary style of a U-Boat. The U-Boat men's watch collection is specially designed for men and women with a strong personality. Swiss movements also "beat" in this watch, although they are specifically adapted to the requirements of U-Boat watches. Another unique feature is the bronze watch case, a currently trendy alternative to steel or precious metals. Due to the individual patina that develops over time, each watch is a unique piece.
The U-Boat Capsoil collection features an entire stainless steel case that is surrounded by oil, visible through a small bubble. This bubble is located behind the rounded watch glass. This special feature highlights the individual details, such as the numbers or the hands. However, the bubble also serves another purpose; it is not only for visual effect but also to compensate for temperature differences.
U-Boat dive watches are not only visually appealing but also developed for professional divers. The Sommerso collection, with its 46 mm size, is optimal for reading and operating underwater. A simple design that focuses on the essentials, here too, the crown is positioned on the left side and is equipped with a screw-down protection mechanism. Additionally, the watch features a rotating bezel for optimal control of elapsed dive time.
