The History of Edox Watches
Christian Ruefli-Flury, the founder of Edox Watches, was born in Switzerland in 1860. He began his watchmaking training in 1870. In 1884, he crafted a pocket watch for his wife Pauline's 25th birthday, which showcased his talent as a master watchmaker. This led to the birth of Edox Watches in Biel, a city renowned for its talented watchmakers. The name "Edox" comes from the Greek verb for measuring time.
By 1955, Edox Watches had become one of Switzerland's leading watch companies. Between 1955 and 2007, Edox Watches introduced numerous innovations:
• Delfin Water Champion (1961)
• Hydro-Sub (1965)
• Edox Bluebird (1969)
• The first true world time watch (1970)
• The thinnest calendar watch (technical record, 1998)
• "Les Bémonts Maître Horloger" (2005)
In 2007, Edox Watches partnered with Swedish supercar manufacturer Koenigsegg. In 2008, Edox Watches became the official timekeeper for Class-1 Powerboat Championship. The company continued to form partnerships in various sports, including WRC (2010), Sailing Series and WCF (2013), Formula 1 (2016), and FIA World Rallycross Championship (2019). In 2019, Edox Watches celebrated its 135th anniversary, having established itself as one of the world's leading brands for diving watches.
The Edox Watches Philosophy
