Gold
As one of the first jewelry designers, Bernd Wolf established the use of 925 silver with gold plating in the market. This was based on the recognition that it was an optimal, durable, and well-tolerated material combination. The gold is applied in the BERND WOLF workshop in Freiburg in the Black Forest using a specially developed, elaborate multi-layer electroplating process, and has nearly the purity of fine gold (23.7 karats or 990/1000). This gives the jewelry pieces their warm, sunny shine.
The term "plating" refers to the fact that the gold coating is so thick that it is as if a thin gold sheet were soldered onto the piece. Since 2010, BERND WOLF exclusively uses gold from certified, ethically sound sources. The gold is extracted from rivers, following environmental protection measures and respecting human rights.
Gold is associated with the sun in nearly all cultures, symbolizing heavenly light, fertility, and perfection. In contrast, silver symbolizes the moon and its deities. As a jewelry metal, it represented civic prosperity and perfection.
In folklore, silver was considered a metal that warded off demons. In ancient China, gold was regarded as the embodiment of the primordial essence of Yang, the dual counterpart to silver (Yin). Thus, the combination of silver and gold is seen as a harmonious union of Yin and Yang.
