Freshwater Pearl
Bernd Wolf works with freshwater pearls of exceptional quality. With their beautiful luster, they shine from within. During his buying trips in spring and autumn, Bernd Wolf places special emphasis on selecting these noble treasures. Pearls form as a defensive reaction in mussels, which envelop foreign objects such as sand with a layer of nacre, called the Conchyn layer. As this layer thickens, the magical shine of the pearl increases.
Pearls are cultivated by inserting foreign objects into the mussels or creating tiny changes in the mussel tissue. The freshwater pearls processed by Bernd Wolf come from China. Bernd and Yvonne Wolf travel to China twice a year to select pearls of exquisite quality. The large, round pearls are formed by removing the pearls from the mussels, polishing them into a round shape, and then reimplanting them. Kehsi pearls, on the other hand, are irregular in shape and occur randomly during the pearl cultivation process, often when mussels fill gaps where pearls previously grew. Depending on the type and size of the pearl, cultivation takes between 15 and 72 months.
Pearl jewelry complements elegant clothing, particularly for special occasions such as attending a theater performance.
For thousands of years, pearls have been regarded as coveted and precious jewelry. The earliest records mentioning pearls date back to 2206 BCE. Until the 19th century, the United States was a significant source of freshwater pearls. Many stories and myths surround this natural wonder, which still holds its allure to this day.
Pearls symbolize femininity, perfection, rarity, and wisdom.
