Hematine – The Gemstone with an Elegant Matte Sheen
The small hematine cubes used by Bernd Wolf captivate with their refined, matte reflections that flash with every movement. Both natural hematite and reconstructed hematine are used. Hematite, an iron ore, forms in the cavities of red iron ore, developing kidney-shaped nodules. Its name derives from the Greek haemateios (bloody), referring to the blood-red color of its polishing water. In Germany, it is also known as the “blood stone.” Hematine is the reconstructed version, created by sintering under pressure and heat, yet with the same chemical composition.
With its elegant, matte luster, hematine is the perfect gemstone for modern, stylish outfits, adding subtle, refined accents.
As early as the Paleolithic era, hematite was used in powdered form as a red pigment for cave paintings. According to tradition, hematite has long been regarded as a healing stone: it is believed to strengthen the heart, impart courage and strength, and support blood formation. For this reason, it was given to soldiers as a talisman in battle.
