Root Coral

Root coral, also known as foam coral (Coralium Gorgonacea), is a popular material in jewelry making and is used exclusively in high quality by BERND WOLF. It is characterized by an exceptionally intense red color, with natural variations in grain that give each piece of jewelry a unique touch of preciousness. Sourced from the Pacific Ocean, this coral grows at depths of 10 to 50 meters and has a tree-like appearance, harvested by divers. Although it grows quickly and is not protected, only a small portion of root coral is used for jewelry.

Root coral is very porous and is often sealed with resin to fill pores and enhance its color. Its vibrant orange-red hue and beautiful grain patterns make root coral jewelry a striking feature that highlights the beauty and personality of the wearer.

Coral has held significance as natural adornment since the Neolithic period, with coral found as grave offerings in prehistoric burial sites. In ancient times, coral was used to make jewelry and amulets believed to protect against illness and the “evil eye.” In many cultures, coral symbolizes the powers of the water world and is thought to strengthen love. In China, coral represents long life, while Italian folklore holds that it protects children from harm.
