Do I have to wind the watch?

No. The automatic movement charges from the motion of your wrist. If the watch sits unworn for several days, wind it by hand at the crown or use a winder.

Can I wear the watch swimming?

The watch is sealed to 10 bar to DIN 8310. Swimming and showering are no problem. Have the gaskets checked every two years, they age whether or not the watch goes into water.

Can I fit a different strap?

Yes. The lug width is 20 mm and any strap in that size will fit. We stock the original Hanhart straps in leather, rubber and steel and will fit them for you in our workshop.

A house with as much archive as Hanhart risks only ever looking backwards. PRIMUS arrived in 2009 and quotes nothing. It is larger, it runs an automatic movement, and it shows it through a display back, which would have been unthinkable on a pilot's chronograph of the fifties.

The PRIMUS Pilot with a brown dial on a dark brown leather strap. Brown on brown is rare in watchmaking because it easily turns monotonous. Hanhart resolves it through different surfaces: matt dial, glossy leather.

Because the line has nothing to reproduce, it may use materials that did not exist then. The steel bracelet carries a transparent hard coating and reaches up to 1000 HV of surface hardness, against roughly 200 HV for untreated stainless steel. In practice that means the bracelet still looks like a bracelet after two years.

The red pusher has stayed, tying this line too to what Hanhart has stood for since 1939.

The dark brown calfskin strap is vegetable tanned and keeps darkening over the years, especially where it bends. Brown leather shows that development more clearly than black, which is exactly what many owners like: the watch looks different after a year than on day one. Take it off for swimming, lasting damp shortens its life.
