What is the point of the flyback function?

It saves you two operations. On an ordinary chronograph you stop, reset and start again. With a flyback one press is enough: the hand jumps to zero and carries straight on. It was developed for air navigation, where legs were timed without a pause.

Can I wear the watch swimming?

The watch is sealed to 10 bar to DIN 8310. Swimming and showering are no problem. Have the gaskets checked every two years, they age whether or not the watch goes into water.

Can I fit a different strap?

Yes. The lug width is 21 mm and any strap in that size will fit. We stock the original Hanhart straps in leather, rubber and steel and will fit them for you in our workshop.

At Hanhart the suffix ES stands for stainless steel. On this model it reads TI, and that means grade 5 titanium. It is the first 417 not built from steel.

The Desert Pilot is limited to 200 pieces per case size, with the number on the sapphire back. The sand coloured dial and the rubber strap in the same family of tones make it the only Hanhart in the range that does not rely on contrast.

Titanium weighs around forty percent less than steel. On a chronograph with a 42 mm case that is not a detail but the difference between a watch you take off in the evening and one you forget about. The matt finish takes the shine off the case as well.

The Desert Pilot is limited to 200 pieces per case size. Unlike the other 417 models the back carries sapphire crystal and shows the column wheel flyback movement, along with the limitation number.

The rubber strap is indifferent to water, sweat and sunscreen and is the easiest to look after. It lies soft on the wrist and does not stiffen in the cold. Running water cleans it. If you want to alternate between sport and a suit, a leather strap can be added later.
